Phantogram, the acclaimed duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, are thrilled to announce the release of their highly anticipated fifth album, Memory Of A Day, arriving on October 18th, 2024, via Neon Gold Records. This release coincides with their North American tour alongside Kings of Leon, featuring headline shows across August, September, and October. To celebrate this new chapter, Phantogram is excited to share the third song from the album, titled “Come Alive,” available now here. Headline show tickets are on sale now here.

Memory Of A Day marks Phantogram’s first release with Neon Gold Records, a label renowned for its illustrious roster of alt-pop icons, including Charli XCX, HAIM, Tove Lo, MARINA, and Christine and the Queens.

The duo explains the creative process behind “Come Alive”: “The song began with a gritty, chopped-up drum beat that Josh crafted. John Hill then added an old analog synth to create the sci-fi sound you hear today, and Sarah layered in a bouncy bassline. Together, we experimented with running synths through guitar pedals, crafting a melody and hook that felt unique and powerful. Lyrically, the song explores the fleeting nature of life—like flipping through the pages of a calendar. With the help of our good friend Dan Wilson, we delved into the fragility of existence and the constant evolution of life’s struggles, triumphs, connections, and pain. Come Alive is about embracing life’s challenges while finding ways to feel truly alive.”

Following their previous albums Eyelid Movies (2010), Voices (2014), Three (2016), and Ceremony (2020), Memory Of A Day showcases Phantogram’s continued evolution. Over the past decade, the duo has worked with legends like Tom Morello, Billy Corgan, The Flaming Lips, and Miley Cyrus, formed the supergroup Big Grams with Outkast's Big Boi, headlined sold-out shows across the globe, and become festival favorites.

Their first single from the new album, “All A Mystery,” weaves together hypnotic guitars, beat-crushing drum machines, and mesmerizing vocals, creating a psychedelic and immersive listening experience. Co-produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer John Hill (Portugal. The Man, Bleachers, Cage The Elephant), the song taps into the wonder of existence and explores themes of love, life, and loss.

Phantogram adds: “‘All A Mystery’ is a line we sang together in the early days of Phantogram. Back then, it was a mystery how we came together as a band, and 14 years later, we’re still amazed at this journey. This song captures the fleeting nature of time and the beauty of sharing our experiences on this planet.”

About “Happy Again,” the duo shares: “‘Happy Again’ is a song about feeling lost in the dark, searching for a guiding light. Although home is a feeling you never forget, darkness can feel endless. Eventually, the sun rises, the ice melts, and we’re reminded that through change, we can find happiness again.”
