Next year’s SKULL & ROSES at Ventura County Fairgrounds, April 19-23, 2023, will be the fifth incarnation of the gathering, which is thriving just like the rest of the Grateful Dead culture it celebrates. This little party by the sea has grown enormously both in numbers and sophistication, to the point of having an original member of the Grateful Dead headline the festival for a second time. But the commitment to joy, dancing, and peaceful community is unchanged, which is perhaps why it’s grown so much!
The festival graciously welcomes back PHIL LESH & Friends who will explore and interpret the music of the Grateful Dead in two headlining sets over two days. Dark Star Orchestra will once again perform an epic Grateful Dead set with their own unique twist. SKULL & ROSES also proudly welcomes back Oteil & Friends for their third appearance, first timers Leftover Salmon and for the fifth time, Melvin Seals & JGB!
Continuous music on a turntable stage will take place at the same seaside site where eleven legendary Grateful Dead concerts transpired from 1982-1987. This expanded 5-day celebration will feature daily themes (Bicycle Day, Four-Twenty, Chinese New Year, New Year’s Eve & Mardi Gras), a heady Shakedown Street, a new Oasis to cool off and rejuvenate, plus local beer & expanded food vendors to keep fans “dancing in the streets” all week long.
SKULL & ROSES is also offering lodging options that include limited hotel rooms at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach and Ventura Beach Marriott plus onsite “Grateful Dead style” parking lot camping.
