Spafford lit up the South Shore this past weekend with a fiery three-night stand closing with a packed out Saturday night at Soundcheck Studios. The improvisational rock band brought deep magic, exploration, and even a surprise fire alarm to the intimate Pembroke venue.
The weekend kicked off Thursday, April 3, with an unexpected bang — literally. Midway through the night, the venue’s fire alarm went off, briefly halting the show and adding to the legend of what would quickly become one of the band’s most talked-about runs in recent memory. Everyone had to evacuate the building, and when they returned, Spafford seamlessly picked up exactly where they left off.
Among the highlights of the weekend were an explosive version of “Ain’t That Wrong”, stretching into layered peaks and swampy funk, and a jaw-dropping jam out of “Red’s Jam” into an inverted “Dirtbath” — flipping the band’s traditionally all-instrumental composition on its head in true Spafford fashion.

From locked-in grooves to full-throttle exploratory jams, the Soundcheck Studios run was a showcase of the band’s musical chemistry and fearless approach to live performance.
