Spotify and Electric Lady Studios are thrilled to announce their new series of live EPs titled Live at Electric Lady. An expansion of their pre-existing partnership for Spotify Singles, this new series from the oldest operating recording facility in the Northeast and the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service will feature high-quality live audio recordings, distributed exclusively on Spotify.
With the first Live at Electric Lady release dropping on Thursday, July 29th with Jon Batiste, the upcoming slate of live EPs will include Patti Smith, Japanese Breakfast, Dominic Fike, Faye Webster, Bleachers, Remi Wolf, and Natalie Bergman, with more surprises to come.
Made famous by Jimi Hendrix and classic sessions with Stevie Wonder, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and many others, the legendary Electric Lady Studios has inspired the world's greatest artists for five decades running, making it the perfect partner for this series. Participating artists are encouraged to play their own compositions as well as cover songs of artists connected to the studio’s history.
Speaking of her time at the studio, Japanese Breakfast shares "It was an absolute dream to get to record at Electric Lady. The rooms are filled with good, ancient vibes and the engineers there are unparalleled, so it's no wonder it's such an iconic studio that holds a place in so many legends' hearts." Faye Webster echoes those sentiments: “I’m so excited and honored to be a part of this. For my first time in Electric Lady, to be a part of this series with so many people I love, is something I’ll never forget. I’m going to be processing this for a while.”
Michele Santucci, Spotify’s Recorded Music Lead, says, “The opportunity to partner with an iconic studio like Electric Lady is an incredible way for Spotify to pave the way forward with new audio content & formats while also paying homage to a place that has a very special place in music history. There’s magic in the walls at Electric Lady, which we are aiming to capture and share with the world!”
Lee Foster, Electric Lady’s General Manager and Partner, adds, “The idea for ‘Live at Electric Lady’ dates back to as early as the mid-70’s, done typically for various radio stations throughout the years. This, however, is the first time that it’s had a dedicated partner and a concrete plan forward. Having Spotify, its staff, and its know-how has given us the big engine we needed to make this program a success. As we look to the future of continued curation of great music, content, and events, this partnership is a great step forward in our evolution, which we look forward to for many years to come.”
