Bonnaroo

Even without the historic first headline set at an American music festival by the iconic Irish rock group U2, the second day of Bonnaroo 2017 would have been an incredible success.

On Thursday, June eighth the Bonnaroo music festival opened the gates to Centeroo, graced with the nicest weather forecast in the events sixteen-year history.  With temperatures topping out in the 70s and much cooler lows in the sleeping hours it was a nearly perfect day. The weather forecast predicted slowly warming temperatures over the four-day festival, below seasonal averages and a near zero chance of rain. In past years temperatures had wreaked havoc on concert goers, even topping the century mark one year.

A few hours before U2 played their first concert as a headline act at an American music festival, guitarist The Edge was honored by the founders of Bonnaroo at a special presentation. The Les Paul Spirit Award was given to the Irish rocker which is printed annually by the Les Paul Foundation, to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of the late, Les Paul through innovation in music and technology.

Bonnaroo 2017 headline acts U2 (Friday), Red Hot Chili Peppers (Saturday), Weeknd (Sunday) were highly charged sets. But the earlier acts The XX, Chance the Rapper, and Lorde all of whom were not overlooked and primed the audience with exceptional performances.

Another year and another successful Bonnaroo adventure can be checked off the list.  It seems like it was just yesterday that I was rocking out to Sir Paul with my parental units at Bonnaroo 2013.  Where does the time go?  With each year I attend this festival, one thing does remain constant, change.  I was in attendance the first few years when Bonnaroo was in its infancy, going just as a fan to see 'The Dead

After a much needed “golden slumber”, I started Saturday off in the best way possible… with a hot shower.  Even though we were seriously rationing the water and it was the quickest shower I’ve taken in my life… it felt absolutely wonderful to rid myself of the Bonnaroo grime and emerge from the RV so fresh and so clean.  Oh the little things!  As everyone around our camp began to surface and prepare for Day 3, my parents decided to brave the hoards of Bonnaroovians and head into town to fill up on gas for the gener

The final workday before Bonnaroo always seems to be the longest.  Constantly checking the clock, my mind was wandering in anticipation for the weekend’s festivities and it was making it rather difficult to focus on any task at hand that didn’t involve me getting on the road and down to the farm.  With a lot of musical distraction I made it through the 9 to 5 crunch, packed my bags, and headed west.  Instead of making my way south towards the Volunteer State, this year was goi
