Hosts Nick and Helen Forster announce another unique pairing of artists for the program’s 20th anniversary season of live radio show tapings. On September 7, eTown welcomes back singer/songwriter/Old-time clawhammer banjo artist Abigail Washburn, along with country rocker Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and his latest band – The Wronglers. Both artists will be making return stops in eTown to share material from their latest musical endeavors and inspirations. Washburn’s most recent recording, City of Refuge, marries Old-time music with Indie Pop to create a sound that is entirely unique. Known also as a genre bender, Jimmie Dale Gilmore will perform material from his latest recording with The Wronglers, entitled Heirloom Music. A long-time friend of the show, Gilmore has appeared on eTown several times over the years with various solo projects, and with his legendary band – The Flatlanders. His relationship with eTown host Nick Forster stretches back into the 1970's, when the two also played in a band together. In addition to performance, both acts will share in-depth conversation with eTown’s hosts on the origins and influences that have helped shape the art they create – an aspect that makes each eTown taping a one-of-a-kind live entertainment experience. The event will also feature a special listener-nominated E-Chievement Award story, highlighting an individual that has gone above and beyond to make a difference in their community.
