The 18th Annual Northwest String Summit (String Summit) is one of the top boutique live music experiences in the country and presents today's leaders in the Americana, Bluegrass, Indy Rock, and Jam genres. It all happens at the iconic Horning's Hideout (North Plains, OR) from July 18 - 21, 2019. Located just 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Horning's Hideout, a private family-owned reserve of old-growth trees, wild peacocks, ponds, and campsites, is among the West's most awe-inspiring festival sites in the country.

The 24th Annual Silver City Blues Festival on May 24 – 26, 2019 will feature legendary musicians, local artists, and food and craft vendors. Wave Spell Live will once again take over the idyllic locale of Belden Town Resort in Belden Town California. Intimate forested stage environments, which include a beach stage and swimming in the river by the beach, make it one of the nations most beautiful festival venues. Wave Spell Live offers a unique look into both the community ethos and famously forward-thinking sonic fusion upon which STS9 has built its trailblazing legacy.

The California Roots Music and Arts Festival (Cali Roots) attracts thousands of fans each year by showcasing the best in reggae, roots, and hip hop. As the festival’s presence continues to grow so does its efforts in environmental preservation, carving the path of producing an environmentally sound event. In 2017, Cali Roots introduced their “Redwood Pass,” which is their unique take on the VIP experience. The most compelling part is that for each pass sold, two redwoods were planted. In the first year, that resulted in 800 new redwoods, which rose to 1,800 redwoods planted in 2018-2019.

KAABOO Del Mar has officially dropped its music and comedy lineups for its fifth annual event happening September 13-15, 2019. Nashville Rock chart toppers Kings of Leon, live music icons Dave Matthews Band, and British folk-rock luminaries Mumford & Sons will headline on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively.

Nestled right next to downtown, the Cincinnati skyline offers a beautiful urban backdrop for this unique festival that has made me proud of the growing music scene in Cincinnati over the past few years. Not only does the cityscape play into the beauty of the venue, but it is seated right along the banks of the Ohio River, giving the festival a bit of character.

I get asked a lot about the current crop of young (as in, never saw Jerry Garcia live) Dead Heads and whether they’re “real.”  And no question, they are.  They get the music, the code of ethics behind the music, the reason we do this stuff.  There is, however, one thing that reveals the passage of time.  Many—not all, but quite a few—members of the younger generation suffer from P.D. – Pigpen Deficiency.
