Today, acclaimed Chapel Hill quartet Mipso announces the release of their new studio album, Coming Down The Mountain (April 7th, 2017), and reveals the first half of dates along their Spring 2017 Album Release Tour.
For Coming Down The Mountain, Mipso venture further than ever from its string-band pedigree to discover a broader Americana where classic folk-rock and modern alt-country sounds mingle easily with Appalachian tradition. Adding drums and more electric instruments than ever to their intimate four-part harmonies and powerful acoustic meld, Mipso’s music is lush and forward moving, with lyrics that sear and salve in turn. It’s music that invites you in to stay a while. Look for the band touring in 2017 with this new, expanded instrumentation.
Coming Down The Mountain CD/Vinyl PreOrder and tickets to Mipso’s upcoming shows are available now at www.mipsomusic.com.
Coming Down The Mountain is the band’s fourth album release, and follows up their critically lauded Old Time Reverie (2015). After a year and a half of intense touring following their 2015 release, Mipso returned to their home state to write and record. Huddling in a friend’s barn on land usually used for growing garlic and training dogs, they collected their ideas, shared influences, and discussed thoughts on what would eventually become Coming Down The Mountain. The album’s ten songs – all originals - finds Mipso exploring the ideas of our changing relationship to the idea of home, and about being pushed or pulled by forces bigger than us. Produced by Brad Cook (Megafaun), and adding pedal steel, drums, banjo, and keyboards to the mix, the music on Coming Down The Mountain is full of wistful beauty, hopeful undercurrents, and panoramic soundscapes that impart intimacy.
Mipso return to the road this Spring and Summer in support of Coming Down The Mountain. The first phase of their Album Release Tour | Spring 2017 kicks off in St. Louis, with stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and more. Prior to the Spring tour, Mipso is playing a run of Colorado shows kicking off March 2nd in Colorado Springs, and continuing on to Denver, Fort Collins, Nederland and Breckenridge.
