April 2014

For each of the next 3 weeks we'll give you the heads up on the order of bands for each day, Friday, Saturday, then Sunday. This will get you prepped for the flow of the music that you will experience at the Jubilee. We are thrilled to have so many great acts join the celebration.  So it's Friday, May 23 and you've got your "Ship of Fools" together (see below for contest), you are finishing your pack of supplies, food and party favors to get you through the weekend and you are off to the races.

The 13th Annual Northwest String Summit (NWSS) returns to Horning's Hideout (North Plains, OR) with the finest acoustic pickers and standout electric bands from July 17 - 21, 2014. Located just 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Horning's Hideout stands as one of the most scenic festival sites in the country; NWSS is the only music offering this year taking place at Horning's Hideout.

There was a time when the singer/songwriter troubadour type of music seemed to be a dying breed. Then, somehow over the last couple decades it seems like there has been a resurgence of interest in just great songs, delivered with passion. That’s what this set really is. Sure, it has some range of musical style, but overall this is most like the great singer/songwriters of the 1970s, but with a modern sensibility. The opener “If I Can't Have You” has sort of a split personality. In some ways it feels like a folk rock, roots rock tune.

Today (4/8) THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT and USAToday.com exclusively premiered a behind the scenes, in-studio performance video for new track “So Far From Home,” from the band’s upcoming album SONG IN MY HEAD out April 29 on SCI Fidelity Records/Loud & Proud Records. The Sunshine City’s quartet, COPE keeps it in the family. This St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay band of brothers features Kenny Stadelman (bass), Dennis Stadelman (guitar and banjo), Michael Garrie (drums), and Juan Montero (keys and saxophone). COPE’s two recordings, “Going Home” and “See” are harbingers of their hairy funk, Southern jam, dance party prowess.

At the Fox Theatre, local bands have rocked the stage for twenty-two years, and they’re in good company. The Meters played the inaugural show back in 1992. Phish and the String Cheese Incident won over early crowds while jamming at The Fox. Snoop Dogg has a painting inside that’s nearly as tall as he is. I could go on and on, but just walk around the lobby full of photo memories and you’ll get it.
