Cartoons are a joyful, essential part of the American experience. From the beloved Saturday morning antics of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in the ‘40s and ‘50s to today’s inspired anime, they express wild swings of energy and emotion, explosive triumphs, and deserved defeats. One element of the cartoons that we’ve recently recognized is the genius of the music that underscores them, a mash-up of classical, jazz, pop, folk, and everything in between.

MerleFest, presented by Window World, has announced the initial lineup for its 36th annual event, taking place April 25-28, 2024, on the campus of Wilkes Community College. Leading the breadth of can’t-miss performances this year are Grammy-winning rogue-folk ensemble Old Crow Medicine Show (celebrating both their 25th anniversary and nearly 25 years since their MerleFest debut in 2000), Red Dirt stalwarts Turnpike Troubadours, decorated blues-rock duo The Teskey Brothers, and recently reunited bluegrass sensation Nickel Creek.

Step back in time with Cascando, the Limerick band with a sound so authentically 60s, you'll swear they've got a time machine. The group is set to release their new single, "Jimmy Boy," on November 29th, capturing the essence of blues, rock, and folk in a riveting blend that evokes the spirits of The Beatles, The Animals, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Bob Dylan.
