Preservation Hall's 14th Annual Midnight Preserves series welcomes prominent artists from a variety of genres alongside the Preservation Hall Collective for intimate midnight concerts within the walls of our hallowed venue in the heart of the French Quarter. Past guests have included Jon Batiste, Shovels and Rope, Sharon Jones, Alabama Shakes, Robert Plant, Al Jarreau, Charlie Musselwhite, The Del McCoury Band, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Givers, The Lone Bellow, Ernan Lopez-Nussa and dozens more.
While we’ll miss the Preservation Hall Jazz Band during Jazzfest’s first weekend when they are in Europe opening for Arcade Fire, we’re ecstatic to introduce new elements and perspectives from our greater New Orleans musical family to the Midnight Preserves experience. Join us in welcoming jazz juggernaut and New Orleans native son Christian Scott as our first Artist-In-Residence for the first weekend of Midnight Preserves. Preservation Hall Foundation’s Musical Director, Charlie Gabriel, will be performing alongside Mr. Scott, bringing forth the spirit of tradition-passing that is so deeply embedded within the Preservation Hall Community.
In true Preserves fashion, Mr. Scott will hand-select surprise guest collaborators to join him in exploring both his deep connections to Preservation Hall and his journey as the progenitor of “Stretch Music,” a jazz-rooted genre-blind musical form that attempts to stretch jazz’s rhythmic, melodic and harmonic conventions to encompass as many other musical forms, languages and cultures as possible. Here’s a clip from his most recent visit to the Hall for the finale of his Refined Players Series.
For second weekend, we will welcome back PHJB with surprise special guests to be announced. While the guest artists for this year's series are not announced in advance, rest assured that every night will present collaborations audiences will never forget.
As always, proceeds from the series will benefit the Preservation Hall Foundation's educational, outreach, archiving, and legacy initiatives in 2018 and beyond. A portion of your ticket price is tax deductible. Tickets are limited, so book with haste.
Tickets will go on-sale to the general public this Friday, March 9th at 12pm CST at www.midnightpreserves.com.
