Django Django released their self-titled, debut album overseas last month on Because. For the four, long years leading up to this release, the band had been busy working in the East London bedroom slept in by their drummer, producer and de facto leader David Maclean. The result of all this hard work is a great debut and one deserving all the excellent recognition it’s receiving in their home country. Debuting at number 25 on the UK charts, and selling out their first UK tour 6 weeks in advance, the time has now come for Django Django to capture the attention of North America. The band will play their first performance in North America on March 10th in Brooklyn at Glasslands, then venture to Austin for SXSW. All signs point to many more stateside visits in the months to come.
While the plans for a North American release are put in place, Django Django is pleased to share with you album track, “Default.”
“When ‘Default’ follows, you are thrown into the realms of wonderment. There’s no point fighting it, you can’t help but be sucked in by the simple beat built for the dance floor.” – Drowned In Sound
Comprised of Vincent Neff (singer, guitar), Jimmy Dixon (bass), Tommy Grace (synths) and the aforementioned David Maclean, the quartet, who met at art school in Edinburgh, first came to people’s attentions after a gradual migration to London a couple years ago. They released the double A-side single "Storm"/"Love's Dart" in 2009, laying down the blueprint for a confident, adventurous and psychedelically-bruised strain of art-rock that melds intangible electronic flourishes to the visceral rub of live instrumentation. The time since has been spent holed away, expanding upon the blueprint, seeing where they can push it. Focused on creativity and experimentation, Django Django is a band with exacting high stands, a thirst to explore, and a strong motto of sticking to their guns.
