The Django Festival Allstars are thrilled to announce their return to the United States for a highly anticipated summer tour, culminating in their debut performance at the prestigious Dizzy’s Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, from July 11-14, 2024.
Renowned for their energetic and virtuosic performances, the Django Festival Allstars bring the legendary musical style of Django Reinhardt, known as "hot gypsy jazz," to life with a contemporary twist. Their shows are a captivating blend of infectious rhythms, swinging melodies, and heart-wrenching ballads, transporting audiences back to the romantic Paris of the 1920s and 1930s when Reinhardt and famed jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli created The Hot Club Quintette.
Leading the ensemble is Samson Schmitt, son of the legendary Manouche gypsy guitarist and violinist Dorado Schmitt. Schmitt’s virtuosity on the guitar is complemented by Ludovic Beier's masterful performances on accordion and accordina. Pierre Blanchard takes on the violin, channeling the spirit of Grappelli with his own dynamic flair. On rhythm guitar, Francko Mehrstein is recognized across Europe as one of the best in the genre, while Antonio Licusati on bass brings a swinging jazz feel to the ensemble's sound.
Their program features original compositions by these talented musicians, alongside some of Django’s well-known standards, promising an evening of music that will keep your feet tapping and your heart soaring.
