Be a part of a live audience, public radio show taping June 23 at the historic Cain’s Ballroom when Live From Cain’s features legendary guitarist, songwriter and singer Elvin Bishop and award-winning blues artist Danielle Nicole. Seated general admission tickets, as well as a limited number of reserved tables, are available for this all-ages show. This recording will be part of an eight-episode public radio series set to air this summer on stations across the U.S.
Born in Glendale, California in 1942, Bishop moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma when he was 10, eventually graduating from Will Rogers High School. In 1960, Bishop began studying physics at the University of Chicago on a full scholarship as a National Merit Scholar until his passion for the blues and Chicago’s South Side clubs interrupted that path. A member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Blues Hall of Fame, Bishop began his career with the influential Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1965. A move to the San Francisco area after three albums with PBBB marked the beginning of a long, successful, and continuing solo career, which includes 1975’s blockbuster hit, “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” (the song reached number three on the pop charts and was prominently featured in the blockbuster film, Guardians Of The Galaxy). Bishop will perform his set with The Big Fun Trio, with Bob Welsh on piano and guitar and Willy Jordan on cajón (a hand-played Peruvian drumbox) and vocals.
Born into a Kansas City-based musical family, Danielle Nicole Schnebelen began singing publicly with her parent's bands in her youth. The multi-award winning bassist and vocalist is a founding member of the sibling blues band Trampled Under Foot. As a solo artist with her own band, Danielle Nicole has accrued numerous accolades including a #1 debut on Billboard Music Chart, a 2019 Grammy Nomination for Contemporary Blues Album; two Blues Music Awards (“Contemporary Female Artist” and “Instrumentalist ~ Bass”), and three Independent Blues Music Awards. Danielle Nicole will be backed by the LFC House Band, The Oklahoma Specials, featuring bandleader Paul Benjaman (guitar), Aaron Boehler (bass), Paddy Ryan (drums), Roger Ray (pedal steel), Jeremy Watkins (fiddle) and John Fullbright (keys). Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist, Fats Kaplin (Jack White, The Tractors) is the host.
“The audience for our tapings at Cain’s Ballroom is so important for what we’re trying to accomplish with this radio show. It’s been wonderful to be able to produce these in front of a live audience again and capture that energy for our broadcast,” says Live From Cain’s Co-Executive Director, Kelly Burley. “We’re also thrilled to share these tapings with a number of public radio stations across the US. They’ll be broadcasting our eight-part series beginning later this summer. We’ll be announcing more details on all of that very soon.”
