Connecticut rock quintet Goose returned to Fort Adams, Rhode Island’s Newport Folk Festival for a memorable weekend of music that included a stellar full-band performance, alongside collaborations with an impressive pair of acclaimed artists. The band, now at the tail end of a massive summer tour that saw them captivate audiences at some of the largest festivals nationwide, delivered a spectacular performance highlighted by their first-ever performance with a member of The Muppets.

Goose received a thunderous applause when they took to the festival’s mainstage late Saturday afternoon, emerging to a large, energetic crowd. They kicked off their set with the laid-back “California Magic,” followed by a gripping rendition of “Silver Rising.” Uptempo catalog staple “Madhuvan” wandered into an exploratory improvisational territory, culminating in a massive crescendo, before the band launched into a scorching cover of The Band’s “Don’t Do It.” After a succinct “Lead Up,” guitarist/vocalist Rick Mitarotonda welcomed The Muppets’ legendary drummer Animal to the stage before launching into the first chords of Goose’s high-octane original tune “Animal.” Animal jammed with the band on his signature miniature drum kit, and punctuated the tune with his roaring, gravelly vocals. The landmark collaboration closed Goose’s set.

2023 marked Goose’s second appearance at the revered, longstanding Rhode Island music festival, known for legendary performances and one-of-a-kind collaborations. Friday night saw vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach accompany Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Madison Cunningham on grand piano and vocals for an emotive rendition of The Beatles’ In My Life.

Goose will return to the stage September 13+14, 2023, for a pair of shows at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion. This fall, the band will traverse the nation again on an extensive nationwide tour, highlighted by visits to Dana Point, CA’s Ohana Fest (9/30), Buffalo, NY’s Borderland Music Festival (9/15), Live Oak, FL’s Suwannee Hulaween (10/26-30), and a two-night run at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater (10/4-5).

November will see Goose embark on their inaugural European tour, an eleven-date jaunt that includes performances in Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, London, and more. They close out 2023 with their annual holiday celebration, Goosemas 10, a two-night extravaganza at  Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum (12/8-9).
