Harry Chapin: When In Doubt, Do Something is the inspiring story of Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/activist Harry Chapin(“Cat’s in the Cradle”). Chapin sold over 16 million albums and was one of his generation’s most beloved artist-activists who spent his fame and fortune trying to end world hunger before his tragic passing. Written, directed and produced by Rick Korn and produced by S.A. Baron andJason Chapin, the film features Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Peter Seeger, Sir Bob Geldof, Kenny Rogers, Graham Nash, Pat Benatar, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Robert Lamm, Richie Havens, and Harry Belafonte intimately reflecting on Chapin’s larger-than-life impact on music and the world including his founding, along with Bill Ayres, of WhyHunger – the nonprofit organization leading the movement to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food in the U.S. and around the world.

ABOUT HARRY CHAPIN FOUNDATION

The Harry Chapin Memorial Fund was created in 1981 with help from Harry’s former manager Ken Kragen and Kenny Rogers who donated $150,000 from a benefit concert. Elektra, Harry’s record label, also was a major donor in the beginning. Harry’s widow Sandy Chapin has led the organization from the beginning. While the name was changed to the Harry Chapin Foundation, its mission has stayed the same – to help make a positive difference in communities around the country.  Our focus is to support Community Education Programs, Arts In Education Programs and Food and Agriculture Programs. From 1981-2021, 674 grants have been awarded to these grassroots organizations for a total of $2,480,503.

ABOUT LONG ISLAND CARES

Founded in 1980 by Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter and social activist Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares’ mission is to both provide nutritious, culturally relevant food to 228,000 food-insecure Long Islanders (including 68,000 children) and attack the root causes of hunger. We annually distribute more than 10 million pounds of food to more than 300 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior-living facilities, homeless camps and more. Food is also distributed at our six satellite locations, targeting each area’s underserved communities. As Harry Chapin once said, “To know is to care, to care is to act, to act is to make a difference.” Long Island Cares exists to make those words a reality.
