Hi there! My name is Helena Hunt and I am a folk singer/songwriter and banjo player and I am about to release my first single on July 17th, 2020! It's called "Girls Like Me", and I wrote it in hopes that it would empower women of all ages to be happy with who they are and always have been since so many women struggle with self-esteem and inequality issues in their daily lives. It will be released on all platforms along with the music video, which is full of clips of all the women I know holding signs up with something that they love about themselves written on them. It is a very "home-made" video since I'm all about authenticity. I wrote this song with wonderful songwriters in Nashville named Deanna Walker and Rick Beresford, and it was recorded in Blue Miller's and Billy Schlosser's studios with some wonderful musicians including Shawn Fichter who is the drummer for Tim McGraw.
I am a 25-year-old from Waynesville, North Carolina, who is awkwardly stumbling through the music world. I've been playing banjo and guitar since I was 8, and I have always wanted to create music that people can relate to without being too showy. That's why I was called the "Plain Jane" on the 2013 Lifetime television series, "Chasing Nashville", that I was part of the cast of, and unfortunately didn't take off due to their emphasis on drama rather than music. I came out of that show wanting to create something authentic and relatable, which are two qualities that are hard to come by these days. I want other people to feel like it is okay to be themselves. From the show, I went on to go to college at East Tennessee State University, where I got my degree in biology, and met Kris Truelson and Kalia Yaegle in the Bluegrass, Old-Time, Country, and Celtic Music program. I joined their band, Bill and the Belles, who were reviewed by The Rolling Stone, No Depression, Bluegrass Today, and more! We toured the UK and all across the United States spreading old-time and country music. I am now working on my solo material and hope you will be interested in helping me promote it to help lift spirits and promote self-confidence during such an uncertain time.
In a world where inequality and judgement are still such big issues, I wanted to create a song to go against that. I know a lot of women who struggle with self-confidence and I want to empower them. I want them to love who they are and always have been. That’s why I had all of the women I know send me videos of themselves holding signs with something they love about themselves written on them. I am a huge advocate of authenticity and love, and I want to spread that.
