The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra invites audiences to join in on “A Whole New Summer” as a bold lineup and audience perks are announced for the 2019 summer season. Kroger Symphony on the Prairie is expanding to more than 30 concerts in its 38th year, and several new amenities will be available to patrons at the Conner Prairie Amphitheatre.
This beloved summer tradition began in 1982, when Joshua Bell made his professional orchestra debut (at age 14!) in the inaugural concert. In the decades that followed, Symphony on the Prairie has grown from a handful of performances to a three-month celebration of the diverse musical tastes of Central Indiana.
“We’re bringing an enhanced summer series to the Prairie while maintaining the beloved traditions our patrons have come to expect,” said Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra CEO James Johnson. “The ISO is looking forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces – from families who have been attending for decades – together with the new faces of those who have not yet experienced our performances, but are energized by our new concert offerings.”
With concerts including Motown legend Smokey Robinson, Scotty McCreery, Trombone Shorty, Kenny G, En Vogue, and 10 fantastic orchestra concerts (including the always popular Star-Spangled Symphony), there is something for every musical taste on this year’s lineup on the Prairie.
