Music magnifies human emotions, highlighting both the weight of daily struggles and the uplift of personal triumphs with the same sensitivity and sympathy. Co-Founder of Portland-based folk-rock band Fruition, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Cobb Anderson accepts the responsibility of capturing that dichotomy via his solo output. Moreover, he distills these universal experiences into hummable, hypnotic, and heartfelt anthems steeped in storytelling folk tradition and amplified by unabashed rock ‘n’ roll energy.
While touring heavily for the past 10 years with Fruition, Anderson carved out time in 2018 to hit the studio alongside Fruition’s bassist Jeff Leonard and drummer Tyler Thompson, also behind the board as producer. It proved to be just the right moment for his sophomore solo album as they retreated to Thompson’s studio.
His seven-song 2019 EP immediately strikes an emotional chord.
“Everything Is Gonna Work Its Own Self Out” is a 7 song EP that hits on a wide array of emotions and topics in just under 23 minutes. From songs that are a cry for release in a society of oppression, to sweet and honest recounts of past lover’s quarrels, to commentaries on smart phone addiction, the EP sings the frustrations, loneliness and struggles of the everyday person.
The second single and title track “Everything Is Gonna Work Its Own Self Out” is a rock-n-roll heater that you “can break plates and sweat through your shirt to. If you’re feeling the frustrations from the monotony of the everyday hustle, put this on in your car, turn it up to 11, and let it all go,” says Anderson. Click HERE to listen to the new single.
You can catch Jay Cobb Anderson on the road with his solo project, Fruition or new psychedelic doom-boogie project TK & The Holy Know-Nothings.
