Renowned visual artist and VJ Jonathan Singer will enter the pioneering NFT space by immortalizing a collection of three selected digital works on the blockchain titled, “The Hypnagogia Collection.”

For over 20 years, Singer has been on the forefront of live event visuals, pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a “VJ”, and helping to elevate the artform and raise awareness of its importance, especially within the psychedelic and jamband scenes. Singer has created content for some of the world’s finest lighting designers and VJs, and has collaborated with and performed alongside visionary stalwarts like the Grateful Dead, Alex and Allyson Grey, Amanda Sage, Tipper, Shpongle, The Allman Brothers, and more.

Set to be released and minted at 6 p.m. EST on April 15th via the NFT art auction platform Foundation, Singer will give collectors a chance to own a piece of history. For the first time ever, collectors will have a chance to own a piece of Singer’s digital artwork--not just a print--but the actual artwork itself, digitally signed by the artist as a single edition, minted on the Ethereum blockchain.

The collection features one still image and two animations, created by Singer and inspired by his experience with “Hypnagogic Travel”, a technique of exploring the states of consciousness that occur between the transitions of wakefulness and sleep.

“I’m truly excited that NFTs have come along to highlight artists in a whole new way. Watching the future become reality is an amazing thing. Over the last three decades I have really tried to develop my own unique style of digital art. I am honored and humbled to bring these works to a whole new audience by minting this collection,” Singer says.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are digital collectibles whose ownership is verified by blockchain technology, ensuring authenticity. The value of the digital files, which are purchased using cryptocurrency, lies in their uniqueness of being a sole token and inability to be replicated. Before NFTs, there was no real way for a digital artist to sell a single edition of an artwork without printing a single copy and selling it. Even then, the collector was actually only purchasing a copy of the original artwork.

Now, NFTs have opened up new and exciting possibilities for all artists to connect with their audiences, and have awarded novel opportunities to digital artists. NFT “smart contracts” allow artists to digitally sign artworks without ever bringing them into the physical world, and also provide the added benefit of a 10% artist commission on the secondary market, something the “real” art market has never been able to do.
