Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician Mary Chapin Carpenter will embark on an extensive headline tour this summer with shows at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, Denver’s Botanic Gardens, Minneapolis’ Pantages Theater, Boston’s The Wilbur, Charlotte’s Knight Center and Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium among many others. Carpenter will also perform select co-headline dates with Emmylou Harris this summer including stops at Charlottesville’s Sprint Pavilion, Vienna’s Wolf Trap and Chicago’s Ravinia Theater. See below for complete itinerary. Tickets for the shows go on-sale this Friday, March 11 at 10:00am local time. Details can be found at www.marychapincarpenter.com/tour.
The upcoming performances add to yet another notable year for Carpenter, who is nominated for Best Folk Album at the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards for her record, One Night Lonely (Live). A rare solo performance, One Night Lonely (Live) was recorded in November of 2020 at Carpenter’s favorite venue, Virginia’s legendary Wolf Trap, and features songs from across her acclaimed career including several from her latest studio album, The Dirt And The Stars. A DVD of the live concert, which premiered at PBS earlier this summer, is also now available. Additionally, during the pandemic shut down, Carpenter stayed connected with fans by sharing Songs From Home, a virtual concert series which has been viewed over 10 million times, and subsequently released as an accompanying coffee table book.
Reflecting on One Night Lonely (Live), Carpenter shares, “Strange yet magical, those are my words to describe the feeling of being alone on this hometown stage at Wolf Trap. I was struck by the stillness of the empty seats and the lonely echo of all this space. While I missed seeing the audience and feeling that connection, I was so grateful for the opportunity to play a show during the pandemic shut down.”
Over the course of her acclaimed career, Carpenter has sold over 15 million records. With hits like “Passionate Kisses” and “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” she has won five Grammy Awards (with 16 nominations), two CMA awards, two Academy of Country Music awards and is one of only fifteen female members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
