Northern California’s Midnight North are proud to announce the release of a free full-length album of music in celebration of their upcoming summer tour that kicks off tomorrow. Live at Terrapin Crossroads features 11-tracks of Midnight North’s signature Western Americana jams recorded over the past year during the band’s Sunday night residency at the storied restaurant and venue of the same name. Fans can receive a free copy of the album by visiting the Midnight North Bandcamp page.
Live at Terrapin Crossroads features nine original songs including the previously unreleased “Roamin’”, plus two covers, “Viola Lee Blues” and “Shady Grove”. A tapestry of three-part harmonies led by guitarist Grahame Lesh, guitarist/keyboardist Elliott Peck, and organist/guitarist Alex Jordan slide over grooves laid down by bassist Connor Croonn and drummer Alex Koford. And because of the Bay Area’s vibrant music community combined with Terrapin Crossroads’ draw as a musical hub, the album also features guest artists on a handful of tracks.
“Our most memorable shows happen when we have guests sit in, which at Terrapin Crossroads, could happen at any time,” says Grahame Lesh, son of the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh. “On "Viola Lee Blues", you’ll notice that the first verse has no organ, but Jason Crosby happened to be in the house that night, and 90 seconds into the song he just sat down at the open keyboard and started wailing! Many times a guest musician will be playing one of our songs for the first time which always brings a unique, unfiltered flavor to the tunes.”
Special guests on Live at Terrapin Crossroads include keyboard/ fiddle player Jason Crosby (Phil Lesh & Friends, Robert Randolph & The Family Band), guitarist Scott Law, and guitarist Greg Loiacono (The Mother Hips/ Sensations).
Midnight North kicks off their summer tour tomorrow night, Thursday, June 30th, in Frisco, CO. The band plays multiple shows in the Rocky Mountains, including a sold-out Dead and Company afterparty show in Boulder, before traveling to the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. In mid-July, the quintet starts their East Coast leg with dates throughout the Northeast including the Relix Presents: Brooklyn is CSNY at Brooklyn Bowl - a night celebrating the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Midnight North returns to the West Coast on August 12th for an encore performance of the music of CSNY at the Great American Music Hall. A full listing of dates is below.
