Los Angeles-based band Ozomatli, renowned for their dynamic fusion of multi-cultural music and activism, will bring their electrifying performance to the Chautauqua Auditorium on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Doors open at 6:30 pm, with the show starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 14 at 10 am, priced between $30.00 and $40.00, plus applicable service fees.
Since forming in 1995, Ozomatli’s collaborative, energetic blend has earned them three GRAMMYs®, four Hollywood Bowl shows, a TED Talk, and numerous accolades. The Los Angeles-bred lineup has inspired and energized listeners globally, from Burma to Mongolia. Their messages and music, sung in both Spanish and English, transcend language barriers.
Ozomatli’s commitment to social justice is a cornerstone of their identity. Their 2019 single “Libertad,” featuring founding members Chali 2na (Jurassic 5) & Cut Chemist, marked their first release together since Ozomatli’s 1998 debut album. The single highlights the struggle of Latin workers in the U.S. who sacrifice everything to support their families across the border. Recognized for their influence, the U.S. State Department appointed the band United States Cultural Ambassadors in 2008. They performed for President Barack Obama in 2009 and 2010 and were honored with “Ozomatli Day” in Los Angeles on April 23, 2013. In 2011, they received the NCLR (National Council of La Raza) Capital Award.
In 2022, Ozomatli’s creativity and stronger-than-ever brotherhood culminated in their latest album, "Marching On," produced by David Garza (Fiona Apple, Sparta) at El Paso’s Sonic Ranch. The LP’s 11 songs showcase a unified blend of the members’ influences and ideas. Notable collaborations include J.J. Fad and Lisa Lisa on “Fellas,” and “Mi Destino,” featuring Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno.
Ozomatli’s music embodies the vibrant, diverse soundscape of Los Angeles. As founding members Jiro Yamaguchi and Ulises Bella explain, "You drive down Sunset Boulevard and turn off your stereo and roll down your windows, and the music that comes out of each and every different car, whether it's salsa, cumbia, merengue, Hip Hop, funk or whatever, it's that crazy blend...that cacophony of sound is Ozomatli, y'know?"
