MUSIC FANS FROM NEAR AND FAR TO BRING PULL TABS FROM CANS TO ASSIST RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OF SCRANTON FROM JUNE 29 THROUGH JULY 2
The Peach Music Festival, which will occupy Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA, from June 29 through July 2, is encouraging attendees to bring pull tabs from aluminum cans to help support the Ronald McDonald House in Scranton, PA.
Doug Bowen, a passionate music fan from West Chester, PA, and a retired EMT, is leading the efforts for the Peach Music community by communicating via social media to encourage all fans attending the Peach Music Festival to collect tabs. Live Nation, promoters of the Peach Music Festival, will assist Bowen by providing receptacle containers to collect tabs at points of entry for the four-day festival, which commences on Thursday, June 29 and runs through Sunday, July 2, featuring the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Goose, My Morning Jacket, Ween, and many other artists.
“All of the pull tabs that are collected are taken to the recycling center in exchange for funds that are put towards our operating costs,” said Warren Shotto, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House in Scranton.
Ronald McDonald’s Pull Tab program provides extra revenue to its budget, so the House is able to fulfill its mission of keeping families close. There is never a cost to the families, the expense of the stay ranges between $100-$140 per night. That is a total of $800-1120 a night when the 8-bedroom House is full. As part of its mission, though, the Ronald McDonald House does not ask for anything from its families and no family is ever turned away.
It takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound. Ronald McDonald House typically receives between $0.40 to $0.50 per pound of pop tabs. This program brings in an average of $6,000 each year. The tabs can come from energy drinks, soup cans, or anything with a metallic tab.
“The Peach Music Festival is comprised of a beautiful group of passionate music fans who want to do something for the surrounding community,” said Bowen. “This is our way of giving back and sharing our love of music and doing something beneficial for the Scranton community. We call it ‘Peach Pulls for People.’”
“Music has the power to bring people together, and what a kind gesture from the Peach team to be supportive of the surrounding community who have been so wonderful to all of us who visit from far and wide and enjoy this incredible experience on Montage Mountain,” said Geoff Gordon, Regional President, Live Nation Northeast. “It’s both humbling and rewarding to see the Peach Music Festival community come together and give back like this. We’re honored.”
