With Pitchfork Music Festival's three stages and three days of music, it is tempting to do the impossible, try and see every act's full set. So our gratefulweb team who will be on-site this weekend has come up with, in no particular order, a list of must-sees to check out.
The Japandroids, a two-man group from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will be returning to play the Pitchfork Music Festival this year on Sunday, July 22nd at 7:45 p.m. The band is touring in support of last year's underrated album, Near to the Wild Heart of Life.
Lauryn Hill, formerly a member of the Fugees, is closing the Pitchfork Music Festival on Sunday, July 22nd at 8:30 p.m. Ms. Hill will be playing her entire album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, her debut solo album which was released twenty years ago and which has sold over eight million copies in the United States, and which won five Grammy Awards, including album of the year.
Courtney Barnett is playing the Pitchfork Music Festival on Friday, July 20th at 7:25 p.m. The quirky 30-year-old Australian singer-songwriter will undoubtedly be playing numerous songs from her second full-length release, this year's critically acclaimed Tell Me How You Really Feel.
Chaka Khan, a ten-time Grammy Award winner performs the Red Stage at 7:25 Sunday night. With her forty-plus year career, she has been crowned as "The Queen of Funk" and has collaborated with a whose-who of music iconoclast ranging from Rufus and Robert Palmer to Ray Charles and Guru. Her super-charged talent can't be missed.
Australian musician, singer, and songwriter Alex Cameron is an emerging talent with an indie pop-rock sensibility who crafts catchy melodies with an accessible sound poising him for greater notoriety. He will be at the blue stage at 5:15 on Sunday.
Big Thief's folk-rock sound has gained critical acclaim from both of their releases "Masterpiece" - 2016 and "Capacity" - 2017. Frontwoman Adrianne Lenker offers up a gorgeous and tender voice with the bands straightforward and unvarnished, raw rock arrangements. Their sound is fresh and energetic. Catch them at the Blue Stage, Friday at 6:30.
Tame Impala, a five piece Australian band is headlining the first night of Pitchfork Music Fest. Their psychedelically cool sound will grace the Green stage at 8:30 pm. The true treat will be seeing how they take the Grammy-nominated best Alternative album The Currents recorded version to a live act.
War on Drugs, relatively new sounds are still forming from this band hailing from Philly. They will play the sunset set on the Red stage Saturday, 7/21/2018 at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Musically diverse, this 6 piece band's strongest effort is in War on Drugs. AMongst their many other side projects, this is the act to catch.
Fleet Foxes, in true Seattle sound, this Indie rock group will perform at Pitchfork Music Fest on the Green stage at 8:30 on Saturday night 7/21/2018. The warm vocal harmonies can ease the pain of whatever weather Chicago has to offer. With 6 members, Fleet Foxes can transcend the stage to sound like an entire orchestra.
