Rounder Records, one of the world's most historic roots, Americana, and bluegrass record labels, is pleased to announce the signing of Oklahoma born-and-raised singer-songwriter, Ken Pomeroy to its esteemed roster of artists. Pomeroy will join a 50+ year legacy of seminal music output from the likes of Gregg Allman, Indigo Girls, Alison Krauss, and Steve Martin & Edie Brickell, as well as critically acclaimed talents Sierra Ferrell, Samantha Fish, I’m With Her, Sarah Jarosz, Ruston Kelly, Amythyst Kiah, and Katie Pruitt, to name a few.
Ken Pomeroy is a thrilling and fresh new voice in the folk and songwriting scene, her unique sound is anchored in her Native heritage and grounded storytelling. Pomeroy’s honest lyrics and raw storytelling have already captured fans from Reservation Dogs showrunner Sterlin Harjo to musician John Moreland. Born and raised outside of Oklahoma City, Pomeroy’s musicianship was honed at a young age, cutting her teeth on the road at age 14, moonlighting as a session musician, and playing shows at her Dad’s hot-rod garage turned listening room in OKC. Now based in Tulsa, Pomeroy is swiftly rising as an artist to keep an eye on, from a prolific regional music scene. Now with the full support of Rounder Records, her star continues to rise with new tour dates, an appearance at Americanafest, and new music to come.
"We could not be prouder to welcome Ken to the Rounder family. Ken is an exceptionally rare, gifted, and captivating artist whose voice, songwriting, and performance display remarkable wisdom beyond her years. She continues a vital tradition of singer-songwriter, roots and folk music at Rounder Records and we are thrilled to work with her.” – Rounder President, Stephanie Hudacek
The signing announcement immediately follows her appearance in the hit film Twisters, performing “Wall of Death” – a nod to R.E.M.'s cover of the Richard and Linda Thompson original – with Wilderado and James McAlister. Listen to “Wall of Death,” featured on the official Twisters soundtrack here, which is the first completely original country soundtrack for a blockbuster film since 1980’s Urban Cowboy. Watch behind the scenes footage of her performing on set of the film here.
“Being a part of Twisters has led to so many unexpected opportunities and friendships. I met Max on set for the first time and we hit it off which led to me being in Wilderado’s music video and featured on their song ‘In Between,’" explains Pomeroy. “We got to see the film for the first time together at the Oklahoma City premiere which was a hoot. I was born and raised in Moore, OK where the highest wind speed ever recorded was recorded. I took my dad to the premiere who still resides in the town and lived through both the May 3rd tornado of ‘99 and the May 20th EF5 tornado of 2013. It was incredible to see something so real to us, be shared across the world.”
Ken Pomeroy kicked off 2024 with buzzed-about appearances at SXSW, tours with John Moreland and Iron & Wine, and the release of her single “Cicadas,” which was originally featured in the FX series Reservation Dogs. Watch the live acoustic performance of “Cicadas” here, directed by the series’ showrunner, Sterlin Harjo.
Harjo says, “I had heard some of Ken’s songs on Instagram and immediately fell in love with her voice and songwriting. I wrote to her and asked if she had any songs available because I was editing season 3 of Reservation Dogs. She sent me some tracks and they fit so perfectly for the episode where Elora finds her dad. It’s always a pleasure to find talented musicians and help get their work out there, and especially great when I find a Native musician to help promote. We shot the live session in my dining room. We cleared it out and spent a few hours being serenaded by Ken. It was pretty magical and never feels like work when you have someone so talented in front of the camera.”
This summer and fall, Pomeroy will continue with a packed touring schedule with dates alongside Kaitlin Butts, Lukas Nelson, and American Aquarium. She’ll be in Brooklyn at Brooklyn Made on August 7, Los Angeles on November 6 at The Troubadour and Nashville at both Americanafest on September 17 and at Exit/In on November 23– full dates below.
