“Sun, Moon and Star” is the first cover song released as a single by Sam Pace and the Gilded Grit. It is a special track because its original writer and performer- Toots Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals- is Pace’s most beloved figure.
Pace’s idolization of Toots began nearly 20 years ago and this Summer marks his first offering from Hibbert’s prolific repertoire.
While Pace’s version of “Sun, Moon and Star” pays homage to the original melody and expression of the 1969 version; the groove, energy and tempo are born anew in the 2022 release.
A passionate and fast hitting number, the leanness of the instrumentation allows Pace’s vocal to charge full-steam ahead and rumble from start to finish.
The particularly tight, motown-inspired rhythm section performance by Jordan Espizona (drums) and Scott McIntyre (bass) also deserves a tip of the hat.
