With the festival's epicenter as San Jose Jazz's new state-of-the-art venue SJZ Break Room, SJZ Winter Fest 2022 reaches the far corners of the South Bay region with eight venues presenting acts from Friday, February 11 - Sunday, February 27, 2022. San Jose Jazz's state-of-the-art pop-up video recording and performance venue The SJZ Break Room will feature more than a dozen live concerts during SJZ Winter Fest 2022. The SJZ Break Room is housed inside San Jose Jazzs downtown office on South 1st Street (at San Carlos) featuring a multi-media digital video wall that projection-maps live performances with Ultra-Short Throw Projectors onto high-end projection fabric mounted on motorized rollers. Sound from outdoor speakers and projections fill a 35 x 14 feet bank of floor-to-ceiling windows, providing a special multi-media concert experience for viewers, both inside the venue and outdoors.
Mosaic America Commission, Co-Presented with San Jose Jazz
San Jose Jazz partners with Mosaic America (LINK) to present the world premiere of a new, Mosaic America-commissioned work. Mosaic America focuses on the creation of intercultural performances that redefine American art. One of five Bay Area artists receiving a total of $25,000 – with each artist representing a uniquely American experience, influenced by African, Arabic, Cambodian, European, Indian, Pacific Island, and Vietnamese cultures -- RIGHTSTARTER featuring Mosaic America fellows DEM ONE (hip-hop vocalist) and PC Muñoz (recording artist) debut their latest work Black/Pacific: Dispatches from the Noble Savage at SJZ Winter Fest 2022.
A song cycle examining the call of the West, the lure of the Pacific, and the distorted historical views of indigenous Black and Brown humanity, Black/Pacific: Dispatches from the Noble Savage brings DEM ONE, PC Muñoz, Dawn Richardson (drummer) and other musicians to be announced to the SJZ Break Room on Friday, February 25, 2022.
Additional co-presentations include Fountain Blues Foundation and Poor House Bistro partnering with San Jose Jazz for shows with Chris Pierce (Fri, Feb. 11 @ SJZ Break Room) and The Chris Cain Band with Maxx Cabello opening at Club Fox (Fri, Feb. 25). Tommy Aguilar of Universal Grammar collaborates with San Jose Jazz for the MNDSGN sets at The Continental (Weds, Feb. 23).
