Somebody's Darling is spearheaded by lead singer Amber Farris, whose unrefined yet tender vocals belt out blistering songs that command the attention of anyone in earshot. She is oft-likened to great singers such as Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, and Erika Wennerstrom of Heartless Bastards. Rounding out the band is David Ponder (lead guitar), Wade Cofer (bass/ vocals), Michael Talley (keys/vocals), and Nate Wedan (drums).
The forthcoming LP, Adult Roommates, is the band's third full-length release and their first new recorded music in two years. Fans of My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Dawes, and the Black Keys will appreciate the band's unique sound - with roots in live expression rather than that studio-perfected sort of vibe, drawing on a range of vintage influences. On their new single, "Bad Bad," the band tells us, "Call it a kiss-off, or maybe a bemused dismissal of someone (anyone, really) who places themselves upon a pedestal of their own making, or somebody whose character seems to center more on style than substance. Of course the flip side of the coin is that now I have to make good on the promise that "I'll show you bad", lest I fall under similar scrutiny. In a nutshell it's about putting your money where your mouth is, and backing up your words and appearances with action and intention."
Somebody's Darling has played relentlessly over the last five years, clocking in over 500 shows through multiple headlining tours, numerous festival stops, and gigs in direct support of great artists such as Shovels & Rope, Deer Tick, Lucero and Divine Fits. The group has gained such a strong reputation across Texas - with their frenetic performances and energetic live show - that they were recently honored by Red Bull Music and invited to become an official Red Bull Sound Select Artist.
Somebody's Darling loyal Dallas fanbase has grown immensely over the years and helped the band get recognized by top local press as well. The band has received rave album and show reviews from The Dallas Morning News, The Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Dallas Observer and in support of their previous full-length album, the band was invited to Rock Island to perform a session at the legendary Daytrotter studios. In the review of their session, Daytrotter's founder raved "Farris is a force as a singer, as a conveyor of hopefulness and of despair."
Somebody's Darling will release Adult Roommates on September 16, 2014. For more information, visit www.somebodysdarling.com.
