Southern California Americana outfit Ted Z and the Wranglers are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of their brand-new album, Kerosene. Slated for release in early 2024, this dynamic full-length offering marks a bold evolution in their signature sound, blending the heart of the American West with a fresh and inspired modern edge.
Formed by frontman Ted Zakka in 2012, Ted Z and the Wranglers have made a name for themselves with their unique fusion of Americana, rockabilly, and roots rock. Driven by Ted Z’s gravelly, whiskey-steeped vocals and honest storytelling, the band’s music exudes raw authenticity and an undeniable passion. The Wranglers—Jackson Leverone (lead guitar, vocals), Marcos de la Cruz (drums, vocals), Henry Clift (bass guitar, vocals), and James Hamilton (guitar, vocals)—provide the perfect tapestry of sound, weaving together explosive guitar riffs, soulful harmonies, and tight, propulsive rhythms that feel both timeless and current.
Since their formation, Ted Z and the Wranglers have built a dedicated following through their electrifying live performances and have shared the stage with iconic acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Steppenwolf. Their first label release, Ghost Train, recorded at Yellow Dog Studios in Wimberley, Texas and produced by Monte Byrom (Big House, Eddie Money), garnered acclaim from outlets like PopMatters and propelled the band into the national spotlight. Their 2019 release Southland further cemented their reputation, earning praise in Billboard as “a foot-stomping honky tonk revival.”
Now, with Kerosene, Ted Z and the Wranglers enter an exciting new chapter. Self-recorded and mixed by drummer Marcos de la Cruz at Firefly Music Studio in Orange County, the album is a carefully honed collection that infuses more rock energy without losing the band’s signature roots-driven sound. “I believe this album is our best work thus far,” says Ted Z. “It offers moments of contemplation but is also a fun and cohesive sonic ride. We’ve road-tested these songs over the past few years, allowing us to grow together and refine our arrangements. That growth is palpable in every note.”
The lead single, “Right That Wrong,” is a modern twist on a classic love story—an urgent call to embrace the present and pursue dreams before they slip away. “The song ignites the heart's desire to follow our passion and take a chance,” Ted Z notes.
Other album highlights include “Let Me Be Your Sin,” a melodious roots-rock track that captures the thrill of surrendering to an irresistible connection, and “Williamsburg,” a heartfelt ode to Ted Z’s son, calling future generations to learn from past mistakes and choose a path toward growth and redemption.
With “Mercy,” the band delivers a poignant folk anthem featuring stacked harmonies, textured guitar work, and soulful vocals. “This song is about living too fast, losing love, and seeking hope in life’s finite nature,” Ted Z explains. “It’s about the emptiness we sometimes feel and the human search for meaning.”
In support of Kerosene, Ted Z and the Wranglers are gearing up for an extensive US and European tour in 2024. With their unmistakable sound and undeniable talent, the band continues to captivate audiences and critics alike. Whether performing old favorites or premiering new material, Ted Z and the Wranglers promise an unforgettable live experience and a legacy that’s here to stay.
