Concord Music Group is launching five new titles in its Very Best Of jazz series, which showcases some of the very best tracks culled from the recordings of some of the most influential artists in the history of the genre. The five new titles, which highlight the work of Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, The Bill Evans Trio, Thelonious Monk, and Cannonball Adderley, are set for release on August 7, 2012.
The successful Birdland Django Reinhardt Festival will expand this summer by joining with WORLD YACHT for a cruise around Manhattan to the live musical style of the great Django Reinhardt, performed by one of America's top hot jazz bands, "The Hot Club of Detroit", showcasing some of the music from their new release 'Junction' on Mackavenue Records. MilkDrive, Austin’s phenomenal jazz-grass band, will release its second studio album, WAVES, on June 19, 2012.
Capturing the band’s sophisticated arrangements and fierce musicianship, WAVES showcases a number of original compositions. It also features special guests Noam Pikelny (of Punch Brothers) and Futureman (of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones).
Bill Frisell's exploration of the music of John Lennon came to life on his 2011 release, 'All We Are Saying.' The album has long been in the works - one could say as far back as the first time Bill heard the Beatles at the age of 13. Says Frisell, "John Lennon's music has been with me, the band, everybody, the world...seems like forever. The songs are part of us. In our blood. There was nothing we really needed to do to prepare for this.
