Guitar virtuoso Julian Lage has announced the March 1 release of Speak To Me, his vivid and wondrously textured new Blue Note album produced by Joe Henry which offers a series of dispatches from his ongoing search for narrative beyond words. Intimate in tone and capacious in intention, the music travels a wide range of American music and delights in the deliberate crossing of wires between gospel hymn and rural blues, California singer-songwriter sunshine, and skronky jazz.

Julian Lage has released “Omission” — a reverent new single imbued with a pastoral swing — and announced his upcoming Speak to Me Tour which will take the guitar virtuoso across the United States and Europe in Spring 2024. “Omission” finds the acclaimed producer Joe Henry enhancing Lage’s trademark melodic lyricism and features Julian on acoustic and electric guitars, Jorge Roeder on bass, Dave King on drums, and Patrick Warren on piano.

Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens, Georgia, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child, flirting with both violin and trombone, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11.

After adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps, Kottke joined the Navy underage, to be underwater, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak, a diesel submarine.

Virtuoso guitarist Julian Lage has announced today’s premiere of “This World,” a song featuring Lage and Bill Frisell alone on acoustic guitars. The song is from his upcoming new album, The Layers, available via Blue Note Records on Friday, March 17. Pre-orders – including vinyl, CD, and download – are available now.

On March 17, guitar virtuoso Julian Lage will release The Layers, a stunning companion piece to his acclaimed 2022 album View With A Room.
