Nahko and Medicine for the People
It’s finally that time of the year. The tenth anniversary of the biggest reggae festival in America, California Roots Music and Arts Festival is upon us, and Cali Roots X promises to be the biggest installment yet. What started a decade ago as an intimate, one-day get together in Monterey has evolved into a movement unlike anything else in the world.
The 10th annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival has announced their second round of artists. Joining an already impressive lineup are scene favorites Rebelution, Dirty Heads, Pepper, Collie Buddz, The Green, and Alborosie. Making their debuts at the event are Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, UB40 feat. Ali & Astro, Kabaka Pyramid, The Elovaters, and Roots of a Rebellion. Also a special Matisyahu set performing the set list from his classic Live at Stubbs album rounds out the announcement.
Mihali has officially dropped “Fading State”, the new dub-reggae single from his forthcoming debut solo album. “Fading State” is the first solo effort from the Twiddle frontman and features guest vocals from socially conscious music luminaries Nahko (Nahko and Medicine for the People) and Trevor Hall, and is produced by Johnny Cosmic of Stick Figure.
Singer/songwriter Nahko has released the official music video for his latest single, “Goodnight Sun.” This is the fourth single from his debut solo album, My Name is Bear, following the release of “Dragonfly,” “Be Here Now,” and “Hamakua.” The video combines behind the scenes footage of Nahko on tour with Medicine For The People and clips from time spent with family and friends at home.
Nahko Bear and his multi-colored tribe are spreading their rainbows all over the country as they support Dispatch on a North American tour that will last thru Autumn equinox, 9/21 2018. While Nahko & Medicine for the People have been known to rally the crowds at festivals, this summer they will play only a handful, including the Friendly Gathering in VT 6/28- 7/1 2018. Grateful Web got a chance to check in with Nahko and see how the tour life is treating him. We also asked some of those “getting to know you” questions that burn deep inside.
Following the release of his critically acclaimed album My Name Is Bear last year, Nahko has announced he will release a new three track EP, Hamakua, on April 13th.
Nahko and Medicine for the People will join Dispatch this summer for the “Dispatch Summer Tour 2018.” Additional support will be provided by Raye Zaragoza, Scatter Their Own, Stephen Marley, and Rebelution on select dates. The tour aims to raise awareness and funds for First Nations communities, and bring to light other Native American issues. Fundraising efforts as well as proceeds from Native designed merchandise will go towards supporting and rebuilding Native American schools.
After a triumphant return to the UK last week with another stint of sold-out shows including London Islington’s Assembly Hall, US sensation Nahko has released the official video for his latest single ‘Be Here Now’. The track is taken from his eclectic new album My Name Is Bear, which was released in October.
Nahko’s debut solo album My Name Is Bear, set for release on Friday, October 20th, is a 16-track collection (including interludes sampled from Nahko’s original road trips) that reflects the soul, authenticity and spirit that Nahko’s fans have come to know.
