Preservation Hall Jazz Band
The Preservation Hall Foundation, in conjunction with
Preservation Hall’s annual Midnight Preserves series during Jazz Fest welcomes prominent artists from a variety of genres to join the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for intimate midnight concerts within the walls of our hallowed venue in the heart of the French Quarter.
From the beginnings of the large scale festival, dating back to gargantuan events such as the 1969 Woodstock Music & Arts Festival or the Watkins Glen Summer Jam of 1973, it was apparent that hosting tens of thousands and creating a safe environment with proper amenities and resources was a challenge that needed some trial and error to perfect. Over the years music and the way we listen to it has come a long way. And so have the festival concepts that we enjoy contemporary.
Though jazz connotes many meanings to many different people something most can agree upon is that jazz necessitates devotion to an instrument. How that layout translates is wide spanning. Jazz can also be narrowed down stylistically by place of origin. Chicago and New York jazz will have signature qualities and different style. Modern day, the city of New Orleans is host to the hardest working jazz community and even broader live performance in general.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was founded in 1961 to promote traditional New Orleans jazz in all its authenticity. Legendary players like Del McCoury Band, Steve Earle, Warren Haynes, The Edge, Charlie Musselwhite, Buddy Miller & Patty Griffin, Robert Plant, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Tao Seeger, all rooted in the formative jazz years, were its original stars.
Greetings from Asbury Park...It's never been so important to say those words, because compared to the rest of the Jersey Shore, we are fine. The Stone Pony, Paramount Theatre and Asbury Park Convention Hall are open for business and the rest of our boardwalk and surrounding beaches are progressing into the New Year.But our neighbors, our families and our friends however are not as fortunate. For the past month we've been with them, shoveling, ripping out drywall and now know why they call a crawl space a crawl space.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band are no strangers to the disastrous aftermath of a hurricane, having endured Hurricane Katrina in 2005, that left their hometown of New Orleans in shambles. Following Katrina, Preservation Hall Jazz Band launched Renew Orleans, along with partners Ropeadope and Okayplayer. The project raised over $80,000 for local musicians. In additional to the financial support, the shirts captured the pride and determination of the people of New Orleans.
Fifty years ago Preservation Hall opened its doors in New Orleans, Louisiana with a mission to preserve, honor, and protect New Orleans Jazz. In celebration of turning a half century Preservation Hall Jazz Band is releasing: The Preservation Hall 50th Anniversary Box Set. This ear bud time capsule consists of specific tracks from recordings released between 1962 and 2010.
