The Motet started as a band the exact year that I moved to Boulder, 1998. I used to see members busking in the streets or see Jamie Janover playing the dulcimer on Pearl St. entertaining tourists and making a few bucks. Now, Jamie runs one of the most transcendental music festival in the country, Sonic Bloom and plays in Zilla, and the Motet is on a nationwide tour tearing up the country.

In the cozy confines of the Crazy Horse Saloon in Nevada City, CA, on April 29, Shakey Zimmerman turned lots of heads with their powerful, compelling takes on venerable Bob Dylan and Neil Young material. Opening the show was the acoustic duo of Shakey’s Pat Nevins along with music newcomer Jennifer Mydland, daughter of Brent Mydland, The Grateful Dead’s longest-tenured keyboardist – and vocalist.

For years now, these events organized by J2G Productions, along with the Love Shack, have been the hottest dance parties in Denver. Most of the reason why is because when a large group of extremely talented musicians get together to jam, everyone does their best to represent. I saw these first attending eight different Bonnaroo Music Festivals, where they hosted Super Jams and had collaborations on nearly every stage.

The first chapter of Twiddle’s double album, PLUMP, was released in December 2015, helping to cement the reputation of the Vermont-based jam band, which has cultivated an enthusiastic following through consistent touring and jubilant live shows. On April 28th, the band will release PLUMP Chapter 2 along with a remastered edition of Chapter 1. The double album was produced by Ron St. Germain, known for his masterful work with Bad Brains, 311, and Sonic Youth.

The act, Tuck and Patti, is comprised of guitarist William Charles “Tuck” Andress and vocalist/arranger Patti Cathcart. They began garnering steam in 1981 after making the decision to perform as a duo. Their recording career was launched with the release of “Tears of Joy” (Windham Hill Records) in 1987.

Arkansauce is set to release their 3rd album at Georges’ Majestic Lounge this Saturday, April 22. Upon first sight, the album art of Arkansauce’s latest release is very striking. A welcomed sight as many within the music industry are leaning toward digital releases with no real visual appeal.  Once opened this album, If I Were You, recorded in studio, provides a rush of the live energy Arkansauce is famous for with an image reminiscent of the experience of seeing them live.

Josh Ritter returned to City Winery this week, performing to an eager audience that had been awaiting his performance since he had to cancel the original show back in February due to illness.

Last Thanksgiving was the 40th anniversary of perhaps the most important concert event in rock ’n’ roll history.  The Last Waltz was promoter Bill Graham’s grandest achievement of his career. Pulling off an unprecedented pre-show Thanksgiving dinner for a couple thousand lucky attendees for what was said to be The Band’s final concert at the legendary Winterland Auditorium in San Francisco.
