The inaugural WWG in 2013 began in the parking lot of Crazy Mountain Brewery in Edwards, Colorado and has since grown to a multi-state, multi-genre extravaganza. WinterWonderGrass has cemented it’s place in music festival folklore. With locations in Colorado, California, and Vermont and attracting music fans from all over the country this festival not only provides the infrastructure for world class music ranging from bluegrass, roots, folk and much more, it also provides world class skiing and riding at each location.

The Mishawaka Amphitheater is a mystical place that lies somewhere between a state highway and a river in northern Colorado. It is one of those venues that most have heard of, even seen pictures of, but surprisingly, many in the region still remark that they have not set foot on its storied grounds. For others, this is a dynamic they would like to keep in place for fear that the secret will get out and future events and tickets would be more difficult to secure than they often already are.

The Sweet Lillies new studio album Common Ground is officially available everywhere you find your music. The band celebrated with a big crowd at Number Thirty Eight last night. The weather was warm, clear and the band was excited to perform for many friends, family, and new listeners.

The Sweet Lillies' music is, first and foremost, heartfelt and collaborative.  Those defining traits are given life by the trio of musicians who make up the Lillies, Julie Gussaroff, Becca Bisque, and Dustin Rohleder, who have combined their individual strengths together to deliver powerful narratives of life in song.

The Sweet Lillies were excited to take the stage in front of a sold-out crowd last night. The guests were just as enthusiastic as they welcomed and embraced the String Americana band from Boulder. This band has no restraints went it comes to progressive styles of music, they incorporate many genres with acoustic instruments, well-crafted arrangements, and band equality on stage. What gives them a universal appeal is diversity in backgrounds and influences.

The Grammy award-winning Infamous Stringdusters are headlining this year along with The Lil’ Smokies, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades with two sets over the weekend, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Old Salt Union, Fireside Collective, The Sweet Lillies, The Grass is Dead, banjo master Kyle Tuttle as artist at large as well as local favorites Restless Leg String Band and many more.

When I was invited, for the third time, to review the John Hartford Memorial Festival, in its 9th year, I heartily accepted. I also tried to bring people along, because it’s an experience worth sharing. I was at a loss, at first, to explain it. Not just a bluegrass festival. A picking festival? Mostly. But with elements ranging from old-time Americana, root music, classical and rock and jazz- I settled on bluegrass and its extended family. It turns out that ‘extended family’ would come back around a few times.

Located along the serene Maremac River, Lost Hill Lake offers a natural venue and spot for a festival of interactive workshops and large, late night bonfire jams. Two stages are separated by the shade of a 50 year-old walnut grove, where the audience can participate in camping, have lake and river access and an assortment of food, artisan crafts and more. The 14-band lineup consists of local, regional and national touring bands performing a range of traditional and progressive bluegrass, jamgrass, Americana folk and more.
