The song is unusual lyrically, with its classic Robert Hunter verses and contrasting emotive, plaintiff choruses. A love ballad of the highest order.

In celebration of the late Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter’s 80th birthday (June 23), two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning American music icon Jim Lauderdale today shares “Memory,” one of the last songs Lauderdale wrote with his decades-long songwriting collaborator; listen here.

I’ve been disappointed a lot. I probably received more than my fair share with my dad being a big offender. He not only paved the way in modeling disappointments but has continuously failed me. (Even though my dad is really lame, if I were to rank the worst, the boyfriend who took his life in my bathroom would get the coveted spot as the number one letdown. I guess it’s always great to be a winner at something.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead took the stage in New Haven, Connecticut on May 29th, 2021 for the second night of a sold out run at the brand-new Westville Music Bowl, and left fans feeling that euphoric feeling they had forgotten in the fifteen months since their last live show because of the Covid pandemic. This was all despite a furious wind, unseasonably cool temperatures and rain on Memorial Day weekend.

This very rare, political song written more than a decade ago by Grateful Dead Lyricist Robert Hunter, was finally unearthed and recorded in 2020. The words eloquently paint a picture of today’s America. This is truly a song for our times.

Acclaimed reggae-rock group Roots of Creation is proud to release their acoustic version of the Grateful Dead’s “Standing on the Moon,” marking the song’s 30th anniversary. Greg Anton (drums) and Scott Guberman (keyboards) met a few years back when Scott relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area. Guberman loves Robert Hunter’s lyrics and reached out to Anton to see if he had any unfinished songs with Hunter lyrics. Anton has co-written 33 songs with Hunter and had a couple that had not been properly recorded, so Anton and Guberman started writing together.

Steve Forbert’s latest cover and accompanying video of the Grateful Dead’s “Box of Rain” is a timely release considering our shared experience surrounding COVID-19. This monumental song originated with one of the Dead’s founding members, Phil Lesh, composing the music, while Robert ‘Bob’ Hunter wrote the lyrics. Lesh came to identify the song with his dying father. He would practice singing as he drove to the hospital and later the nursing home. Death surrounds us.

"I listened to the album two or three times that night just taking it in, living in its world, and loving it, trying to understand what this feeling was. It wasn’t happy, nor was it sad. Yet, it reflected the presence and possibility of every emotion in the rainbow, and the recording was unbelievable. The talent and musicianship were undeniable. The lyrics melted my mind." - My Morning Jacket's Jim James On American Beauty
