Umphrey's McGee

To most of us who really pay attention to the current state of music and journalism, it comes as no surprise when I say that the quality and quantity of genuinely good music news and coverage coming out of the major media outlets has diminished substantially over the last decade or more.  They tend to focus more on pop artists, movie stars, and political discourse rather than covering and featuring truly great music (as they once did).

After a particularly grueling winter, festivalgoers around the country are dreaming of their summer getaways and for many music fans, this means a breathtaking weekend at Summer Camp Music Festival 2014. What started as roughly a 1,000 person gathering has blossomed into a 7-stage, 15,000 person event that stands as one of the Midwest’s premier festivals today.

Genre-defying sextet Umphrey’s McGee announces the release of their highly anticipated eighth studio album Similar Skin (June 10). Similar Skin will be released via the band’s newly formed independent label, Nothing Too Fancy Music, named after one of their most beloved songs.

ON the last day of January 2014 a great group of people gathered in the snow and ice at the LC Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio for a sold out Friday night show. Umphrey’s McGee never fails to impress and also draw an impressive crowed. The band sold out the LC Pavilion which holds almost 3,000 people at 3p.m. that day. This was a special stop on the tour as the day before the band got some heart breaking news.

Due to ice and snow, there exists dangerous driving conditions in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas. There’s no doubt Colorado was the place to be this past New Years, and the three-night Umphrey’s McGee run at the Fillmore Auditorium was absolutely no exception. Night two of the stand featured plenty of bust-outs, sit-ins, and surprises that had the exuberant Denver crowd grooving from start to finish.

Halloween is upon us, and the band has been vigorously rehearsing musical mash-ups and putting the finalizing touches on production for our weekend-long extravaganza in Milwaukee. Thursday night, Halloween proper, is the "Official Mash-up Night," where fans and the band alike are encouraged to descend upon the historic Riverside Theater in costume. The London Souls, Cosby Sweater and Boombox lend support over the weekend, adding their diverse musical stylings to the stage.Partake in our annual Pumpkin Carving Contest, and bring your submission to the Riverside between 5-6pm on the 31st.

Umphrey's McGee's Fall tour kicks off tonight in Burlington, VT. Thirteen shows in 18 days, culminating with their return to Milwaukee for 3-nights of balls-to-the-wall Umphrey's Halloween fun.

Friday, August 16th, 2013, at White River State Park in Indianapolis was perhaps my favorite night of the STUMS9 tour so far.  Maybe I love it so much it’s because it is in my hometown, but White River State Park is a great place to see a show. It was a beautiful summer night, not too hot, like it was last year, and there were wispy clouds in the sky.  The stage is set in downtown Indianapolis off of the canal that runs through the city.

South Bend, Indiana progressive rock band Umphrey's McGee has made quite a name for themselves in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area over the years. In the beginning the band played at venues like the Minnesota Zoo Amphitheatre and The Cabooze, building a reliable fan base that grew every time they returned to the Twins Cities. As they gained popularity, Umphrey’s McGee began to headline shows at the legendary First Avenue Nightclub, playing as many as three nights in a row to sold out crowds.
