Borderland Music & Arts Festival, set to take place this coming weekend September 19th-20th at Knox Farm State Park outside of Buffalo, New York, located 20 minutes from the Canadian border, was rescheduled due to COVID-19 restrictions. John Prine’s Souvenirs will be available for the first time on vinyl next Friday, September 25 on Oh Boy Records. Originally released in 2000, Souvenirs was produced by Prine and his longtime collaborator and friend, Jim Rooney, and includes members from his longtime band, Jason Wilber and Dave Jacques.

I have been closely tracking COVID deaths. (My morbid confession.) On average, 1,000 deaths are realized daily. By January, if we don’t assume basic public health approaches, new models predict 3,000 daily deaths. I’m not a numbers gal. (I barely passed algebra 2 and was thrown into delinquent geometry where I have fond memories of the goth guy who taught me how to apply lipstick flawlessly.) Although told ad nauseam numbers are clear-cut, I despise mathematics, finding the subject difficult to comprehend.

Steve Earle & the Dukes announced today that they will be recording an album of songs written by Justin Townes Earle with 100% of artist advances and royalties going to a trust for Justin's daughter, Etta St. James Earle. It is expected that the album will be recorded in October and released in January, 2021, around the time of what would have been Justin's thirty-ninth birthday. More details to be announced shortly.

On Saturday, Sept. 19 the magic begins with Quarantine Vault Premiere #1, a concert recorded in 2013 featuring Electric Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, and Barry Mitterhoff) with guests Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, Bob Margolin, and guest drummer Jim Wall.

Sound Summit, the intimate annual music festival set in a stunning venue atop Mount Tam in Marin County will stream performances from its 2016 event to help raise funds for Sound Effects, its relief effort for Bay Area musicians who have not been able to gig since the pandemic took hold and will likely not be able to do so for some time. Powered by Nugs.net, the Sound Effects stream will take place on Sunday, September 27th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM (PDT).
