The Django Festival Allstars are thrilled to announce their return to the United States, marking a significant milestone with their debut performance at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Jazz at Lincoln Center, as part of their highly anticipated summer tour.
Renowned for their electrifying and virtuosic performances, the Django Festival Allstars bring to life the enchanting musical style of Django Reinhardt, known as "hot gypsy jazz." Their music is a vibrant homage to the romantic era of Paris in the 1920s and 30s, when Django Reinhardt and the legendary jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli created the iconic Hot Club Quintette.
The Allstars' music is infectious, characterized by a driving beat, rich melodies, and an undeniable joy that captures audiences from the first note. Leading the group is Samson Schmitt, son of the legendary Manouche gypsy guitarist and violinist Dorado Schmitt. Samson's virtuosity is complemented by Ludovic Beier on accordion and accordina, Pierre Blanchard on violin, Francko Mehrstein on rhythm guitar, and Antonio Licusati on bass. Each musician brings their own unique flair to the ensemble, ensuring a dynamic and unforgettable performance.
Their program features original compositions by these talented artists, as well as beloved standards by Django Reinhardt.
