From her landmark 1967 album Wildflowers, which introduced listeners to emerging talents like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, to her most recent work, Collins has remained a curator of profound musical artistry.
Judy’s latest album, Spellbound (2022), marks a milestone in her illustrious career—her first album composed entirely of original songs. Featuring 12 new modern folk songs and a special bonus track of her classic, The Blizzard, the album is a deeply introspective and poetic journey through the moments that shaped her life. Spellbound offers glimpses into her early days in Greenwich Village, her childhood in the Colorado wilderness, and her lifelong artistic evolution.
With Spellbound, Judy pays homage to folk pioneers Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, continuing their tradition of personal storytelling infused with social consciousness. Her songs weave together tales of nature, love, activism, and history—including the thought-provoking Thomas Merton, which explores the mysterious death of the monk and anti-war activist.
Though decades have passed since her ethereal vocals first enraptured audiences, Collins’ voice remains as pristine and emotive as ever. “That’s a combination of good fortune, extreme luck, and hard work and discipline,” she says. “I do a lot to protect and take care of my voice, and I practice every day—you have to or you lose it.”
