88.5 KGNU & Party Guru Productions are thrilled to announce that Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Julian Marley will be performing with The Uprising on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the historic Fox Theatre. Doors open at 7:00 pm, with the show starting at 8:00 pm. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 11, at 10:00 am.
Julian Marley, son of legendary reggae icon Bob Marley and Barbados-born Lucy Pounder, was immersed in music from an early age. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Julian honed his talents on bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards, studying under reggae giants Aston “Family Man” Barrett, Carlton Barrett, Earl “Wire” Lindo, Tyrone Downie, and Earl “Chinna” Smith. His debut album, Lion in the Morning (1996), showcased his dedication to roots reggae and spiritual consciousness, a theme that permeates all of his work.
Julian’s illustrious musical journey includes a contribution to Lauryn Hill’s Grammy-winning album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, live performances across the globe with his siblings, and the release of celebrated projects such as A Time and Place (2003) and Awake (2009), the latter earning a Grammy nomination. A true citizen of the world, he’s traveled with The Uprising to perform in Jamaica, New York City, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia, Ghana, and beyond, spreading messages of positivity and conscious music.
In 2023, Julian won a Grammy Award for his album Colors of Royal, further solidifying his role as a key figure in modern reggae. He received another nomination for the 2024 awards, underscoring his continued impact in the industry. Beyond music, Julian has also expanded his reach through new partnerships, including with Bio Biz, a global company dedicated to sustainable cannabis solutions, aligning with his personal commitment to holistic health and wellness.
As he prepares to release his next musical project, Julian remains steadfast in his devotion to conscious reggae and the Rastafarian way of life. “I don’t plan the next step; I just continue on with Jah Works and somehow things seem to just come together naturally that way,” he says.
