Greensky Bluegrass Bring Surprise Guests, Full-Band Swaps, and High-Energy Performances to New England

This past weekend, Greensky Bluegrass delivered a pair of unforgettable shows in Boston and Portland, highlighting the band’s flair for collaboration, spontaneity, and top-notch musicianship.

On Saturday night at Boston’s House of Blues, Greensky Bluegrass invited Greg Liszt of Crooked Still and The Deadly Gentlemen to join them on stage. The excitement in the venue was palpable as Liszt—celebrated for his banjo virtuosity—stepped into the mix.

Together, they kicked off with “I Fall Back” by The Deadly Gentlemen, igniting the crowd with spirited picking and tight vocal harmonies. Next, the ensemble poured that energy into a Greensky staple, “Living Over”. To cap off the special collaboration, they offered up a soulful rendition of “Get No Better” by John Hartford, paying homage to one of bluegrass’ legendary figures.

The very next evening at Portland’s State Theatre, Greensky took a different, equally surprising approach: a full-band swap with their friends, the Kitchen Dwellers. The segment began with the Kitchen Dwellers performing “Seven Devils”. One by one, each member of Greensky replaced a Kitchen Dwellers musician until the entire lineup on stage had completely shifted, seamlessly transitioning into Greensky’s own “Windshield.”

The result was a playful, carefully orchestrated handoff that showcased both bands’ chemistry and sense of fun—a highlight that left the audience buzzing about what Greensky Bluegrass might do next.

These two New England shows are just a taste of Greensky Bluegrass’ current headlining tour across North America. With a reputation for inventive live performances, the band continues to thrill crowds nightly with their blend of bluegrass tradition, jam sensibilities, and genuine camaraderie.
