Violinist, vocalist, and composer Joe Deninzon and his band Stratospheerius are excited to announce the release of their latest music video, “Voodoo Vortex (Part I).” Available now on YouTube, the track pays homage to the classic 1970s prog-rock and fusion era. Deninzon cites legendary violinists Jean-Luc Ponty, Mahavishnu Orchestra's Jerry Goodman, Didier Lockwood, and Eddie Jobson as key inspirations, merging their fiery virtuosity with Stratospheerius’ own brand of modern rock energy.
In creating the video, Deninzon enlisted visual artist Robert Minsk for the surreal, dreamlike imagery. Minsk’s work is interwoven with photographic stills shot by Jody Gianni (the designer behind the Impostor! album packaging) and energetic performance footage captured by David Levin at the band’s album release show in Rutherford, NJ. Together, these elements channel a vintage, psychedelic aesthetic that aligns perfectly with the song’s expansive sonic palette.
The new single arrives on the heels of Stratospheerius’ most recent album, “Impostor!”, released via Trey Gunn’s 7d Media. Garnering international acclaim, the record has been picked up by more than 120 radio stations worldwide, landed on numerous “Best of 2024” lists, and propelled the group to chart on Relix/Jamband radio. Its first music video, “Outrage Olympics,” was celebrated at LA’s Independent Shorts awards and will be screened in New York City at The Producer’s Club on February 27 at 2 PM ET. With ongoing support growing both domestically and abroad, “Impostor!” has also secured UK distribution through Burning Shed and German distribution via Just for Kicks.
Critics have been quick to praise “Voodoo Vortex (Part I).” John Giordano of The Progressive Aspect likens the track’s ethereal feel to King Crimson’s “Matte Kudasai” and applauds Deninzon’s creative violin effects, while praising Impostor! for its distinctive blend of influences. Prog Nick from The Prog Report highlights the “glorious melody” and shifting time signatures, lauding both Deninzon’s violin interplay with Bill Hubauer’s keyboards and Jason Gianni’s dynamic drumming.
“Impostor!” features Joe Deninzon on electric 7-string violin, acoustic violin, viola, chin cello, and vocals—serving also as the album’s producer—alongside Michelangelo Quirinale (guitars), Paul Ranieri (bass), Jason Gianni (drums), and Bill Hubauer (keyboards). The record was mixed and mastered by Rich Mouser (Tears for Fears, Dream Theater, Weezer), weaving together elements of progressive rock, fusion, and jam-band textures. Often compared to Rush, Muse, Dream Theater, and Kansas, Stratospheerius’ boundary-pushing sound ultimately led to Deninzon’s invitation to join Kansas in May 2023—a testament to the forward-thinking musical vision that he first established with his own band.
