RADO’s latest release masterfully blends reggae-infused rhythms with uplifting energy, combining heart-thumping beats and soulful melodies into an irresistible balance of sound. “Family Tree” is a cosmic journey of positivity, uniting a global rhythm with a timeless message of togetherness and gratitude.
Fans of RADO’s dynamic live performances will appreciate how “Family Tree” flawlessly translates the band’s electrifying stage presence into a polished story. The tune not only highlights their mastery of crafting rich, multi-layered narratives but also invites newcomers into the intricate world they’ve carefully built. With impeccable musicianship and vivid lyrics at the forefront, “Family Tree” paints a powerful portrait of family bonds and community ties, while its dynamic instrumentation mirrors the ever-evolving influence of technology in our lives.
The track marks the third installment in Chapter Two of Jeffrey Purdue, RADO’s ambitious rock opera, which takes listeners on an emotional rollercoaster through the life of its complex protagonist. In “Family Tree,” listeners are invited into a poignant chapter of Jeffrey Purdue’s life, as he finally secures the funding necessary to build his AI robots, fulfilling a lifelong passion.
As Jeffrey Purdue reflects on his past and the loss of his wife, he grapples with the tantalizing possibility of creating a new family—one that technology may allow him to make a reality. This track serves as a powerful exploration of vulnerability, presenting Jeffrey not merely as an antagonist but as a deeply affected man seeking solace from past tragedies and trauma.
Exploring themes of loss, longing, community, and the intersection of humanity with technology, “Family Tree” highlights the multifaceted predicaments of its central character.
“This song is meant to show the vulnerability of Jeffrey Purdue as not just an antagonist in our story, but someone deeply hurt by past tragedies and traumas that have shaped his life. This man finally has another shot at the life he’s always wanted, with a family that loves him. That is all he wants, and he will stop at nothing to ensure it happens for him and his robot wife,” shares singer and guitarist Dylan Tuthill.
“In more ‘real-life’ terms, the song is about establishing and finding a community that is unique to yourself and aligned with the values you believe in. Whether it’s family, music, art, or just a really great group of friends, we all seek that connection with one another. In times when things feel polarized, I find it even more important to focus on the continual effort of building strong connections and communities that we’ve formed over the years,” says Tuthill.
The single’s striking artwork, hand-illustrated by artist Jackie DiNardo, features an intricate tree adorned with miniature robots, symbolizing the blending of traditional family structures and modern technological advancements. This visual metaphor beautifully captures the song’s exploration of individuality within a collective and the shifting importance of community in our digital age.
Drawing on deep, symbolic imagery, the track paints a vivid picture of a sprawling family tree, its thick roots grounded in tradition while its branches reach skyward, symbolizing both growth and change. At the heart of this vision are miniature robots, hanging like ornaments from the tree’s branches, each unique in form but all connected to the same strong, organic foundation. These robots represent the diverse members of the band’s extended community—fans, collaborators, and creators—who contribute their own distinct energy to the whole.
Surrounding this central image, dark clouds and light rain swirl, adding to the mood of resilience—depicting how, despite the storms and uncertainties of life, the community’s bonds remain unshaken. It embodies the band’s expansive community of fans, friends, and collaborators, symbolizing the strength, growth, and interdependence of relationships—all with a playful, contemporary edge.
