Canadian singer-songwriter Scott Helman has officially announced the launch of his independent label, Fo Fum Records, marking a bold new direction in his career. Formerly signed to a major label, Helman now fully owns his masters and retains complete creative control over his projects, a move that represents the culmination of his artistic journey. He made the announcement on social media, posing a reflective question to his fans, "Is this how it was supposed to happen?"
The first release under Fo Fum Records will be Helman’s new album “Augusta 10”, set to debut on October 14, 2024, coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of his original breakthrough LP, Augusta. The album features re-recorded and reimagined versions of songs from his debut, capturing the essence of his earlier work while blending it with a contemporary folk-soul sound. Helman recorded the project in his home studio in Los Angeles with longtime collaborator and producer Callum Maudsley, who had toured with Helman during the original Augusta album cycle.
"After separating from my former label, I went on tour and felt so energized by the fans," Helman shares. "That tour reignited something in me. It made me want to reclaim my music, honor those memories, and record the songs the way I’ve always wanted them to sound. Augusta 10 is my full-circle moment."
To celebrate his newfound independence, Helman has released the first single from the album, “Somewhere Sweet,” along with an accompanying music video, directed by Ben Knechtel (Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench). The song, which had become a fan-favorite staple in live shows, has never been officially recorded until now. Helman describes the track as "an ode to the past, but new, fresh, and exactly how I would have it sound today."
Helman will also release an exclusive merch capsule for Augusta 10, designed and curated by the artist himself, available on his newly relaunched webstore.
