Great music, great venue, great weather. The Newport Folk Festival has succeeded in reinventing itself in recent years, adopting a broader definition of “folk” that has allowed for the inclusion of a wide range of what might be called “folk-inspired” bands, while still paying homage to its acoustic guitar-strumming roots.

After closing out its first two-day festival today with enormous success, and to a sold out crowd, Boston Calling, announces a second edition, which will take place just a few months from now, September 7 and 8, 2013, at the city’s historic City Hall Plaza [One City Hall Square, Boston, Massachusetts]. Just before headliner The National played an unforgettable set on the Main Stage, Boston Calling further amped up fans by announcing that it will return to City Hall Plaza in September with Vampire Weekend and Passion Pit headlining.

It was the biggest and best small festival I have ever attended. There, I said it. I have started with a boom; a writer’s biggest mistake. There was no building to this statement. The opportunity to hook you with subtlety and humor was lost. If you stop reading now, I have only myself to blame.

The Big Up Music & Arts Festival is just a few short weeks away, taking place Thursday, August 8th – Saturday, August 10th at Hemlock Hollow Farm in beautiful Claverack, NY! The three-day camping event features more than 70 musical acts including livetronica, EDM, funk, rock and disco artists on three stages.

The inaugural White River Arts & Music Festival (WARMfest) today announced Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue as part of their three-day lineup during the Labor Day weekend festival August 31-September 2 at Broad Ripple Park in Indianapolis. Live music will be featured throughout the entire run of the event on five stages and will include a mix of national, regional and local talent.Trombone Shorty is a trombone and trumpet player originally from New Orleans with a background in jazz, funk and rap music.

Shoe Fest 2013 will be headlined by Chicago's own Cornmeal. The lineup also features The Drew Emmitt Band of Leftover Salmon, Floodwood with Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico of moe. and Artist at Large Allie Kral. Shoe Fest is in its 3rd year and it will take place on September 6-8, 2013 at Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see in Manteno, IL. There will be two stages of music with an emphasis on roots music.The full festival line up includes some of Chicago's finest bands, The Giving Tree Band, Family Groove Company, Henhouse Prowlers and many more.
