Genre-defying sextet Umphrey’s McGee announces the release of their highly anticipated eighth studio album Similar Skin (June 10). Similar Skin will be released via the band’s newly formed independent label, Nothing Too Fancy Music, named after one of their most beloved songs.

Who are the New Orleans Suspects, you say? Let's start with Mean Willie Green on the drums, drummer for the Neville Bros. since 1981, not to mention playing on albums by Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead. Then add Reggie Scanlan, bassist for The Radiators for all 33 years of their existence, plus he was a member of Professor Longhair's band. On sax there's James Brown's band leader (for the last 12 years of his life) Jeff Watkins, who after Brown passed away led Joss Stone's band for 6 years.

Mark Newton & Steve Thomas are proud to announce they will perform at A NIGHT FOR TONY RICE to be held at 3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grill, 818 3rd Ave. S. in Nashville on Tuesday, March 25. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the concert will begin at 7:00 pm.

Galactic is not just a band. They are a community. They are a party. They are a movement and a force that comes to town to bring an awakening or awareness that is deeply entrenched in a carnival type New Orleans experience. With Mardi Gras at our heels, Denver was still feeling the holiday spirit, and the circus was in town. I call Galactic a community because I have never really seen a band with more of an open family type jam spirit that welcomes so many different types of musicians depending on their latest albums or motives.
