Compass Records artists received a collective 11 nominations this morning for the 2024 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards.
The nominees were announced in a live broadcast from Sirius XM's studios in Nashville. IBMA-winning bassist and GRAMMY-nominee Missy Raines & Allegheny were the musical co-hosts, performing 3 songs from their critically-acclaimed release Highlander and receiving a nomination for "Panhandle Country" featuring Rob Ickes and Bronwyn Keith-Hynes for Instrumental Recording of the Year. Raines also received her 34th nomination for Bass Player of the Year.
Compass co-founder and banjoist Alison Brown also received two nominations. Her collaboration with Steve Martin on "Bluegrass Radio" received a nod for Collaborative Recording Event of the Year. The song was co-written by Brown and Martin and follows on the heels of the pair's national bluegrass chart-topping and Emmy-Award winning 2023 collaboration "Foggy Morning Breaking." Brown also picked up a nomination for Banjo Player of the Year.
Special Consensus was nominated for Music Video of the Year for their IBMA award-winning song "Alberta Bound" from their 2023 release Great Blue North. The cleverly shot and edited video features performances from some of Canada’s best bluegrass musicians shot on location including Ray Legere, Pharis & Jason Romero and John Reischman and The Jaybird Trio interwoven with footage of Special Consensus filmed in Belfast.
Other nominees include Michael Cleveland who received a nomination for Fiddle Player of the Year and, with his band Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, for Instrumental Group of the Year. Todd Phillips was nominated for Bass Player of the Year, Rob Ickes received a nod for Resophonic Guitar Player of the Year and reigning IBMA Guitar Player of the Year Trey Hensley was nominated for Guitar Player of the Year.
