Fruition is releasing their 2nd new single of the year today with “Feeling Weird,” following up the February track “Hard To Make Money.” The Hard To Make Money Tour kicks off next week with the band visiting venues in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Minnesota, After a short break for a festival in Mexico in April, the band will return to the road in May to visit Oregon, California, and Arizona, which now includes a newly announced show in Mariposa, CA. The band has been hard at work writing and recording new music over the past year, with some of those new songs finding their way into setlists for these upcoming shows.
The second of the new songs is out everywhere today and can be heard here.
Songwriter and lead vocalist on the single Kellen Asebroek offers:
"ʻFeeling Weirdʻ is a bit of a Fruition deep-cut. We've had it in our back pocket for over a decade now and I think the lyrical content kinda reflects that; a youthful mix of silliness and melancholy. Born literally from a hungover van-ride after a long night of partying, back in the days where we would sleep on the floors and couches of whoever was brave enough to host a whole pack of road-dogs.
Even though on the surface the song says ʻwoe is meʻ, it also has *just* enough emotional maturity to recognize that the problems and troubles I was experiencing were of my own doing - and that it would be my own responsibility to course-correct them. Lastly, I styled this tune to be a nod to the great comical-yet-heartbroken tradition of folk songwriters like John Prine and John Hartford. Because after all, life has a tendency to often be comically heartbreaking, doesn't it?”
Fruitionʻs March dates feature opener Willy Tea Taylor, who is touring in support of his latest album The Great Western Hangover which features appearances from Fruitionʻs Jay Cobb Anderson on vocal harmonies, and production work from Fruition drummer Tyler Thompson.
In addition to the newly announced show at Mariposaʻs Grove House, support for May shows will be announced soon.
Fruition's three-part harmonies and impromptu performances captivated crowds on street corners and in campgrounds in the Pacific Northwest initially, but their remarkable 15-year journey has seen them emerge as a singular force in the world of Americana on some of the nation's biggest stages. Channeling the delicate, playful, and honest focus on songcraft and vocal harmony of groups like the Beatles and CSNY, the band continues to create timeless and genuine folk, roots, and rock 'n roll.
Distinguished by three accomplished songwriters and a rhythm section that serves each song with a finely tuned attention to detail and aesthetic, Fruition manages to consistently release a body of work that is both uniquely their own and instantly familiar.
